Atomique

Photo sharing sites such as Flickr allow users to publish, organize, and explore photos in a community context combining sharing, annotation, and conversation. However, most hosted communities have architectural and institutional shortcomings due to their usually centralized nature. Users have little or no control over the community’s policies, functionality, or appearance. The social data, such as contacts, comments, and group activity, are locked within a community, while it is not possible to interact with users from other communities. Atomique is a web-based software that enables decentralized photo sharing by using open formats and protocols of the blogosphere, i.e., RSS and Trackback, allowing exchange and discussion of photos in decentralized groups.
